John Sgouros is a biochemist with 30 years of experience in bioinformatics. He has a degree in Biology with specialization in analytical electrochemistry from the University of Athens, Greece, and a PhD in protein chemistry from the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry and University of Munich, Germany. After his PhD he joined the European Yeast Genome Sequencing Network, tasked with the computational assembly and analysis of the DNA sequence of Chromosome III from baker’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), the first eukaryotic chromosome to be fully sequenced. He has held leading roles in bioinformatics in Switzerland, the UK, Brazil, Finland and in the
Human Genome Project. Building on a long experience in the pharmaceutical industry, academic research and postgraduate bioinformatics teaching, he works as a consultant, focusing on data integration and knowledge management in the life sciences.
