David works on R&D and business development at Spiber, the Japanese biomaterials company that
launched the Moon Parka with the North Face Japan earlier this year and is now scaling up the
production of its protein materials. His original journey in synthetic biology traces back to the
University of Amsterdam, includes a stint at the legendary Silver lab at Harvard, and has now led him
to the other side of the world surrounded by rice fields in rural Japan, where he works on the
development and commercialization of nature-inspired protein materials produced with genetically
engineered microbes in fields ranging from apparel to automobile.
